*otkrivanje, razvijanje i izrazavanje kreativnih izvora u samima sebi, postajanje vise aktivan/ni *razdvajanje sebe i grupe i razvijanje sopstvenog misljenja
U nedelju 24. prezentovali smo mali performans u Domu Penzionera u Bratuncu
“Mi smo ovdje / We are here” is a social cultural theatre project in the town of Bratunac and surroundings. In the coming year – summer 2010 till summer 2011- we try to plan theatre workshops for different groups of inhabitans of different generations. The aim is to have something else next to ordinary life, because there are not many cultural activities in this region. We believe that by any means of imagination -like in theatre and art- there is an open space created to see the world in other ways. Next to the theatre work we encourage other small activities, by foto and film, to make the town and its people visible for each other. The workshops are given by Giselle Vegter, theatre director in the Netherlands and by Ilil Land-Boss, German-Israeli actress, theatre director and drama therapist living in Germany.
Theatre workshop with youngsters of Bratunac and region in cooperation with Forum Žena
From 15th to 23rd July we gave a seven days workshop to a group of boys and girls between 12 and 15 years, of Serb as well Bosniac background, living in the town of Bratunac as well as the surrounding villages Glogova and Voljavica and in Srebrenica (for whom we provided taxis). We worked every day from 10:00 to 13:00, in collaboration with the NGO Forum Žena, which is, among other activities, having a so-called Feministic School, in which children and youngsters learn about important questions of society like human (and especially children’s) rights, gender equality, democracy, racism and so forth.
In the workshop, which had the title ‘Inside/Outside’, we worked with basic elements of theatre like movement, text, pantomime, improvisation and masks, and used principles of Dramatherapy. The life of the youngsters themselves was in the centre of the work: they brought in their own thoughts, ideas, dreams and talents. Our general aim with the workshop and the presentation was to strengthen them in their personalities and help them believe in themselves and their ressources.
We built our workshop mainly from out of the following goals:
*standing stronger in one-self, having more self-security
*be open, tolerant and respectful towards others
*making the experience of a creative process in a group
*making the experience that every participant can contribute, with personal special talents, an important part in this process
*discovering, developing and expressing creative sources in one-self, becoming active
*distuinguishing one-self from a group and developping one’s own opinion
We used different theatre games and exercises to develop concentration, awareness and creativity and widen the personal role-diversity. Next to this, we worked more thoroughly on the following aspects:
„Ja sam…“/“I am…“
We asked the youngsters to write a list of what they are, explaining that we all have many roles in life (we are for example a daughter, a friend, a sportist etc.), and in following sessions to write lists of what they are especially good in, what they dare or have the courage to do, and what they are afraid of. Parts of these texts were shared in the group, parts in small ‘interviews’ in couples, and there was always the possibility of keeping things for oneself.
Elements of these texts were later used in the presentation, spoken individually or in choirs.
Towards the end, we also asked the youngsters about their wishes for their future, and integrated their recorded voices into the performance.
‘Inside worlds’
We approached emotions via the creation of mouvements or sculptures for different emotions (with which, in the presentation, we choreographed a kind of emotion-gestures chorus).
We asked the youngsters each to paint two masks, one for the ‘brighter’ side of their personality (for example their strenghts, talents, wishes, dreams and aspects in themselves that they like) and one for the ‘darker’ side of their personality (for example their fears, bad dreams and aspects in themselves which they like less). They immediately enterd into a very concentrated work, and we noticed that out of 11 children, 9 started with the ‘dark’ mask.
‘Dialogues without words’
We made physical exercises in couples of finding different ways of pushing and pulling, mirror each other and follow and lead, as well as letting oneself fall and being caught by the group.
We made a choreography, showing on a more abstract level of dance people wanting to express themselves and being held back by different forces.
One very central principle was the work on focus, standing or moving in space in a state of high concentration and awareness, by which the youngsters could feel the power of their presence.
Photographing your daily life
For the weekend, in which we didn’t work wit the youngsters, we distributed disposable photo-cameras with the invitation to take pictures of things (places, objects, persons etc.) central in their lives. They had the possibility to write or tell something about the pictures, or leave them without comment.
On Saturday, 24th we presented a small performance in Dom Penzionera in Bratunac.
The processes playing the main role in the workshop, we didn’t focus on an end result during it, but towards the end built a collage of some of the elements created, which started and ended with the youngsters wearing the two masks.
Next to the performance, we displayed the pictures made by the youngsters on the walls.
Later we printed posters of their pictures, which we hung in public places of the town of Bratunac.
Future plans
We are in contact with the womens organizations Maja and Jadar to offer the women of Konjević Polje and Kravica a workshop in autumn or winter 2010.
We are in contact with the schools of Bratunac to offer the pupils a theatre workshop in the same period.
We are on the search for organizations of men in this region. We are interested to know what their needs could be.
We are in close dialogue with Musicians without Borders, the music and theatre organisation for the region of Srebrenica, to make connections with the youngsters in both regions.
